My hair fell out in elementary school

My hair fell out in elementary school

My jaw dropped typing that, but it's true. I was (and still am) obsessed with Michael Jackson and I thought getting a Jheri Curl in my shoulder length hair would make me look like his sister Janet. SMH...  Gabby got her gift for nagging honest. In her case, it led to us inventing GaBBY Bows. In my case, it led to me convincing my mom to chemically process my thick, beautiful and growing hair.  It wasn't long before clumps of hair were in my wide tooth comb and my hair couldn't stretch to the middle of my ear.  I was in the 4th grade...

Let children cry

Let children cry

Raise your hand if you have heard this advice before. I remember hearing it when Gabby was a baby and we were trying to get her to sleep in her crib and not in the bed with us. I was overwhelmed by the love and care expressed in the stories, prayers and words of advice you and others gave me after I shared I discovered my best friend of 37 years, maid of honor, classmate and Gabby and Michael's godmother dead in her home due to COVID. With support from family and friends like you, counseling and faith-based grief support, we will get through this and fulfil the purpose behind this pain. I was booked months ago to speak at a business conference this past Saturday. I wanted to back out SO badly. I knew I would struggle to gather my words and...

Get out the way

GaBBY Bows Gabby Goodwin

Get out the way

Welcome to the first of my behind-the-scenes series on parenting! I'll be sharing the ups and downs in our journey to make our children's dreams realities. Last night, GaBBY and I hosted our annual virtual Vision Board Party with the Girl Bosses and moms in our Mommy and Me Entrepreneurship Academy. It was a great time of bonding and fun! Our Girl Bosses have HUGE goals and remind me so much of GaBBY when she was five years old insisting we create a barrette that would stay in her hair and seven years old launching her own business with the GaBBY Bows she pushed us to invent....
