How we spent my late BFF's birthday

How we spent my late BFF's birthday

You (and every member of the Confidence Family) are amazing, rozalynn. Your encouragement and prayers were greatly appreciated as we faced the first birthday of my best friend of 37 years, classmate, maid of honor and GaBBY and Michael's godmother without her physical presence. In case this is the first email you have read about Tameka, I found her dead in her home from COVID on January 7th and have been working to properly grieve and heal from the experience and share my journey. I mentioned that we may go to the spot we celebrated all her birthdays, Texas Roadhouse....

My BFF would be 44 Thursday

My BFF would be 44 Thursday

Real talk. I've been dreading this week. Thanks for all of your encouragement and prayers since I found my best friend of 37 years, classmate, maid of honor and GaBBY and Michael's godmother dead in her home from COVID January 7. Her completely unexpected death rocked us to the core, but we know it has been our faith and the support and love of family like you that has kept us. My hair fell out in elementary school

My jaw dropped typing that, but it's true. I was (and still am) obsessed with Michael Jackson and I thought getting a Jheri Curl in my shoulder length hair would make me look like his sister Janet. Let children cry

Let children cry

Raise your hand if you have heard this advice before. I remember hearing it when Gabby was a baby and we were trying to get her to sleep in her crib and not in the bed with us. I was a first-time mom and thought it was cruel until I realized I was being played by my brilliant bundle of joy and crocodile tears. She knew if she cried enough, she would get prime real estate in our bed.  I had to realize that as her parent, it was my responsibility to parent and discipline her to sleep independently. This...

You are not stuck.

You are not stuck.

I don't know who else needed to hear that behinds me, but I figured I would share it anyway. I was crying during my first call with my mindset coach since finding my best friend of 37 years dead from COVID. "I feel stuck. I feel so behind..." I mumbled between snot sniffs. She commended me for getting the help I need through counseling and a grief support group to properly grieve and heal, then dug deeper to identify the source of the pressure I was under. We realized it was self-imposed and unrealistic. We set business goals before the trauma and those should be...
